BOOKIE LOOKIE - MORIARTY (SHERLOCK HOLMES #2) by ANTHONY HOROWITZ

HI EVERYONE! I'm Genie and welcome to today's BOOKIE LOOKIE. Today I want to haul to you...

                      22535533

MORIARTY (SHERLOCK HOLMES #2) by ANTHONY HOROWITZ

I know some of you would love to read a book about Sherlock Holmes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYNOPSIS

Internationally bestselling author Anthony Horowitz's nail-biting new novel plunges us back into the dark and complex world of Detective Sherlock Holmes and Professor James Moriarty--dubbed "the Napoleon of crime"--in the aftermath of their fateful struggle at the Reichenbach Falls.

Days after Holmes and Moriarty disappear into the waterfall's churning depths, Frederick Chase, a senior investigator at New York's infamous Pinkerton Detective Agency, arrives in Switzerland. Chase brings with him a dire warning: Moriarty's death has left a convenient vacancy in London's criminal underworld. There is no shortage of candidates to take his place--including one particularly fiendish criminal mastermind.

Chase is assisted by Inspector Athelney Jones, a Scotland Yard detective and devoted student of Holmes's methods of deduction, whom Conan Doyle introduced in The Sign of Four. The two men join forces and fight their way through the sinuous streets of Victorian London--from the elegant squares of Mayfair to the shadowy wharfs and alleyways of the Docks--in pursuit of this sinister figure, a man much feared but seldom seen, who is determined to stake his claim as Moriarty's successor.

Riveting and deeply atmospheric, Moriarty is the first Sherlock Holmes novel sanctioned by the author's estate since Horowitz's House of Silk. This tale of murder and menace breathes life into Holmes's fascinating world, again proving that once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however im- probable, must be the truth.

ROCK REVIEW (BOOK) - MESMERIZED by ALISSA WALSER

HI EVERYONE! I'm Genie and welcome to my latest book review. As you all have read the title, I am reviewing...

                      18005442

           MESMERIZED by ALISSA WALSER

I have read this book a week ago and I think some of you knew that I bought it at the BIG BAD WOLF Book Fair. If you haven't, I'll link that below so you can see it. I'll give out details and links to buy this book online. This book was actually an e-book plus is was a German one. It was translated to English. I found this book while I was searching for another book. Actually, I know nothing about this book. I choose it because of the beautiful cover and I know that was a little cruel but hey, you won't stop if you say gorgeous covers at the price of 3 dollars!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's start!!!

Non-spoilery review

Guys, if you haven't read this book, I have to say just one thing... BEAUTIFUL! You really would have no idea how the story goes.
It's about a doctor named Anton Franz Mesmer who is a doctor and physicist. One day, he got a big offer. That offer happened to be fixing a blind girl's eyes. Not just any blind girl, but a famous pianist who is the daughter of the court secretary. The empress was the one who sponsored to help fix the blind girl's eyes. And then, comes with scandal and stuff like that.
If you're interested, pick it up or comment if you want to buy this book, e-book...???

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPOILERY REVIEW

You guys, I love how the concept of the story works. All historical fiction and it was suprising enough to know that this is based on a true story set in Germany during the late 1777 to 1789. It was sad, it was happy, it was so intrigueing. Lines were so beautiful structured and atmosphere... AMAZING. Mesmer says so little things but he does things with action. And Maria, seriously, I loved her. I was hoping both of them would fall in love or something.  Let me say some good and bad points from my view of this story.

First was that, I love how the writing swiftly moved. And the progressing in moderate speed. Like Mesmer trying control her by using his Spanish cane. I could picture how scary it would be to do stuff like that. The magnets and the ability to learn people. Mesmer liked his job. He was more of keen observer and a great listener. He wants to understand the people and things around him and I admire him for that talent.

Resi as in Maria, OMG, she is like a look-innocent but no really like that kind of girl. I admit it, I really think of her as annoying and immature. Doesn't act like an adult. But it calms my heart to know that she's not like other goody-two-shoes blind girl you see in every story. I mean, you don't see every blind girl who's behaving really nice.

I mean, you don't see girls like that in real life (even though this girl in this pic happens to be a guy). You'd wonder if every girl is like that. NO!!! Part of the story proves reality within the dream world and that is... The world of books.

Mesmerized, the best book. I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars cause, some of the story had barriers of confusion and that made me question a lot like "what happened or why did it happened". Like the part where Mesmer went on the train to go to Paris. I was like... "why is he leaving Anna hear?" By how Mesmer described Anna's face for being sad, it just tore me down. But not to the verge of crying.

I usually ask myself what literature books are like, now I know and I'm gaining interested towards that genre.

My expectations flew like hell when I flipped every single one of those pages.

Like when Mesmer had to silence his pupil and I was like "are the going to do something" and when he explained the whole imagination stuff, some started arguing and total negativeness. But I was hoping that Mesmer would shake it off, though, historical stuff stated it to be something else.

I was hoping that the love between Mesmer and Maria would grow but... WHAT!!! You know that broken hearts are like those painful words saying "GET THE HELL OUT OF MY LIFE!!!". When Maria put it that way (when she lied), I could feel her guilt surrounding around me. Like, "Yeah, you should feel guilty". I despised how Maria's behaviour would be so, so immature. I hate that.

But, when Mesmer realized that it's OK, it's time to move on and stuff like that, I realized that Mesmer made a horrible but beautiful idea. Hey, I had to agree on that. I didn't picture Mesmer to be a heavy-bearded old bold man with a nostalgic look in his face, I was actually picturing Mesmer and as Prince Hans from Frozen.

Trust me, Hans isn't so much of a villain when you picture him as Mesmer. The doctor face suits him well actually. I kinda love it. Hey, don't blame me for anything and NO, I do no have a thing for villains, especially Disney ones. The image of Hans being Mesmer popped up and I was like "Oh well, what the heck"
As for Maria, I was thinking of her as Nannully from Code Geass (anime)

I have to be honest here, it is kinda sad to have Nunnally aka Maria the blind girl who's wearing a wig. I mean, seriously, WHY!?!?!? *in despair, don't bother*. And I didn't like the fact that I had to hate Maria because Nunnally is innocent in Code Geass!!!

But no one can change what my mind made.... SAD...

And for Anna, strangely, I don't picture her as Anna from Frozen but some typical hot head. And Kaline... Don't get me started... I seriously laughed when she was flirting with that messenger. The thing is... I thought of her as some fat, grumpy old woman. Turned out she's a... playgirl. And to me, that was funny.

BOOKIE LOOKIE - THE LOVELY BONES by ALICE SEBOLD

HI HI HI!!! I'm Genie and welcome to BOOKIE LOOKIE. I'm sorry for not posting other BOOKIE LOOKIE post but I've been so busy lately. But here I am now. And today's book I will be hauling to you is.

                     12232938

THE LOVELY BONES  by ALICE SEBOLD

I know that some of you have watched the movie and so little have realized that this movie was adapted from a book. So, I guess some of you might read it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYNOPSIS

The Lovely Bones is the story of a family devastated by a gruesome murder -- a murder recounted by the teenage victim. Upsetting, you say? Remarkably, first-time novelist Alice Sebold takes this difficult material and delivers a compelling and accomplished exploration of a fractured family's need for peace and closure.

The details of the crime are laid out in the first few pages: from her vantage point in heaven, Susie Salmon describes how she was confronted by the murderer one December afternoon on her way home from school. Lured into an underground hiding place, she was raped and killed. But what the reader knows, her family does not. Anxiously, we keep vigil with Susie, aching for her grieving family, desperate for the killer to be found and punished.

Sebold creates a heaven that's calm and comforting, a place whose residents can have whatever they enjoyed when they were alive -- and then some. But Susie isn't ready to release her hold on life just yet, and she intensely watches her family and friends as they struggle to cope with a reality in which she is no longer a part. To her great credit, Sebold has shaped one of the most loving and sympathetic fathers in contemporary literature.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYNOPSIS

From Allison van Diepen, author of Snitch and Street Pharm, comes a sexy, dangerous novel about a teen who witnesses a murder and gets caught up in the seedy world of Miami’s gangs.

Maddie Diaz never should have taken that shortcut through the park. If she hadn't, she wouldn't have seen two members of the Reyes gang attacking a homeless man. Now, as the only witness, she knows there’s a target on her back.

But when the Reyes jump her on the street, Maddie is protected by a second gang and their secretive leader, Lobo, who is determined to take down the Reyes himself. Lobo is mysterious and passionate, and Maddie begins to fall for him. But when they live this close to the edge, can their love survive?

On the Edge is a compelling story about fighting for what’s right and figuring out where you belong. The novel showcases a gritty, realistic voice and earth–shattering romance that will intrigue readers of Simone Elkeles and Paul Griffin and captivate fans of Allison van Diepen's other novels.

Actually this is the 2nd chick-lit book that I want so bad. The first one is Love, Rosie. When I read the synopsis, I was like... OK, I MUST HAVE THIS BOOK.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYNOPSIS

The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly...

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight...

He can fix her sink, but can he wrench his way into her heart?

Flynn McCauley never thought he’d be so cliché as to fall for the girl next door. But when Maddie calls him over to help fix her faulty sink, he’s a goner. Too bad the fiercely independent interior designer wants nothing to do with him. Even worse, he’s forced to rely on the advice of his nosy brothers—and his five-year-old nephew!—to figure out how to make her give him a shot.

SYNOPSIS

**RELEASE DATE NOT SET - TBA**

I’m a gigolo. Male escort. Hustler… whatever you like to call us. And in the past seven years, I’ve had sex with… well, I stopped counting after I hit five hundred… basically, I’ve screwed a lot of women.

I know what you’re thinking... I must have had a terrible childhood, something horrendous happened in my life that drove me to this career.

Wrong.

The best thing to ever happen to me is why I work this job.

My daughter.

I’m a single dad. And I have sex with women for money, to feed, clothe and put a roof over my eight year old daughters head.

Not ideal, I know, but now I need the money more than ever…

Four weeks ago my worst nightmare happened… my baby girl was diagnosed with Cancer. Now, I have to earn, and earn big, to pay the mounting medical bills.

I have never felt more terrified, and more alone, in my life.

My name is Lucas Adams.

And this is my story.

A BOLLYWOOD AFFAIR by SONALI DEV

By looking at the cover, you know that this book takes place in India or this might be an Indian love story. You see, even though I'm an Indian, I don't really like Indian love stories or movies. But this is the third in book that I want to read. So, I have expectations for this book and I hope they make out pretty well once I get to read it

SYNOPSIS

“Deeply-felt emotions that will keep readers turning the pages.” --Susan Elizabeth Phillips, New York Times bestselling author

“Deeply romantic and emotional, with characters I fell in love with, A Bollywood Affair is simply unputdownable.” -Nalini Singh, New York Times bestselling author

Mili Rathod hasn’t seen her husband in twenty years—not since she was promised to him at the age of four. Yet marriage has allowed Mili a freedom rarely given to girls in her village. Her grandmother has even allowed her to leave India and study in America for eight months, all to make her the perfect modern wife. Which is exactly what Mili longs to be—if her husband would just come and claim her.

Bollywood’s favorite director, Samir Rathod, has come to Michigan to secure a divorce for his older brother. Persuading a naïve village girl to sign the papers should be easy for someone with Samir’s tabloid-famous charm. But Mili is neither a fool nor a gold-digger. Open-hearted yet complex, she’s trying to reconcile her independence with cherished traditions. And before he can stop himself, Samir is immersed in Mili’s life—cooking her dal and rotis, escorting her to her roommate’s elaborate Indian wedding, and wondering where his loyalties and happiness lie.

Heartfelt, witty, and thoroughly engaging, Sonali Dev’s debut is both a vivid exploration of modern India and a deeply honest story of love, in all its diversity.

“A delightful debut packed with complex characters and deep emotions.” —Shobhan Bantwal, author of The Dowry Bride

“Sonali Dev not only entertains but provides new insight into the human condition. A must-read.” --Mingmei Yip, author of Peach Blossom Pavilion

SYNOPSIS

Television writer Kate Meredith is having the day from hell. First, her show was canceled. Then her fiance left her for another woman. Now, she's courting disaster by flirting with the hard-bodied, tattooed, motorcycle-riding bad boy of her dreams - who also happens to be the man who fired her.

If people had told Ian Hart that he'd be firing Kate in the morning and dancing with her that night, he'd have laughed in their faces. Despite her leggy body, the sweet but geeky redhead isn't his type. At least, that's what he thinks before spotting her in a club wearing an outfit that reveals her surprisingly delectable assets.

Before he knows it, Ian becomes Kate's knight on a shining motorcycle, escorting her home to prevent her from running off with some random guy. But when the night is over, "Little Miss Boring" and her sexy former boss just might turn their oh-so-wrong feelings into something very right

THE FIRELIGHT GIRLS   by KAYA McLAREN

I have to say that this book might change my perspective of love because for so long, I think love should belong to the world of fantasy. I just hope this book doesn't change what I think. But I am always very excited for this book.

SYNOPSIS

The summers you spend at summer camp are indelibly etched on your heart. But what happens when the camp you love is about to close? Can you ever really say goodbye to the place that made you who you are?  These are the questions that plagues Ethel, the seventy-year-old former camp director who is nursing a broken heart after losing the love of her life as she now faces the impending closure of the camp on Lake Wenatchee that she called home. It's also a question that inspires change in forty-year-old Shannon, who spent the summers of her youth as a vibrant, capable camp counselor and is now directionless after watching her career implode. And there's Laura, who has lost all intimacy with her husband and doesn't know if she can save what seems to be gone forever.  Finally, Ruby, who betrayed Ethel years ago and hasn't spoken to her since, hopes this will be her chance to make amends. When the four women learn that a homeless teen has been hiding at camp, they realize camp is something much more immediate for all: survival.

And so the three generations of women search for a way to save the place that saved them all, finding in the process a way back to themselves and each other in The Firelight Girls, Kaya McLaren's novel of love and loss, heartbreak and healing.

SYNOPSIS

From a remarkable new voice in suspenseful women's fiction comes an emotionally searing drama about a woman who risks her life to discover the devastating truth about her family…

Humanitarian aid worker Gia Andrews chases disasters around the globe for a living. It's the perfect lifestyle to keep her far away from her own personal ground zero. Sixteen years ago, Gia's father was imprisoned for brutally killing her stepmother. Now he's come home to die of cancer, and she's responsible for his care—and coming to terms with his guilt.

Gia reluctantly resumes the role of daughter to the town's most infamous murderer, a part complete with protesters on the lawn and death threats that are turning tragedy into front-page news. Returning to life in small-town Tennessee involves rebuilding relationships that distance and turmoil have strained, though finding an emotional anchor in the attractive hometown bartender is certainly helping Gia cope.

As the past unravels before her, Gia will find herself torn between the stories that her family, their friends and neighbors, and even her long-departed stepmother have believed to be real all these years. But in the end, the truth—and all the lies that came before—may have deadlier consequences than she could have ever anticipated…
